Membership Guidelines
Membership is open to all at the Springfield Family YMCA regardless of gender, age, income, ability, race or religion.
Policies
Membership Card
Your membership card is your passport to the YMCA. Cards must be scanned at the Member Service Desk upon arrival. If you forget your card 3 times within 1 month or if your card has been lost, you must purchase a new card at a fee of $5.00. Membership cards are nontransferable, and the use
of a membership card by anyone other than the person to whom it is issued will result in the loss of membership privileges. Refunds will not be issued for loss of privileges due to misuse of the membership card.
Towel Service
Towels are made available to members (Ages 18+) free of charge at the Member Service Desk. Please help us keep costs down by remembering to return your towel to the specified buckets before leaving the YMCA.
Guest Policy

A photo ID will be required of all guests, ages 16+. This identification will be retained at the Member Service Desk.

Members must register their guests at the Member Service Desk.

A youth member’s parent must accompany and register a youth guest, ages 7-18. Parents are not required to remain in the facility.
-
A member must accompany the guest in the facility and be responsible for their conduct.
-
The management reserves the right to limit the number of guests, on a given day, based upon member usage of the facility. The YMCA reserves the right to determine the “legitimacy” of a guest.
-
Members may bring the same guest to the YMCA three times per year. No more than three visits per guest per year.
-
A member may only have one guest per visit.
-
Prices for a guest ages 7-15 is $5.00.
-
Prices for guest 16 and older are $10.00.
-
YMCA members visiting from other YMCAs may use the facility up to 12 times per year at no cost.

REMEMBER: Areas of the facility are utilized according to scheduled program and activity times. Please plan visits accordingly. All program areas close 15 minutes prior to the facility close.

Conduct
Behavior
While visiting the YMCA, members and guests are expected to exhibit good behavior, use proper language, exercise common courtesy, respect others as well as the facilities, and follow the established rules and policies of the YMCA. The YMCA reserves the right to revoke memberships for improper conduct. Any behavioral problems or concerns should be directed to the YMCA staff.
Dress
When using the YMCA facilities, appropriate attire is required. No display of gang -related signs will be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to: head rags, do-rags, skull caps, bandanas, etc. The YMCA staff reserves the right to have members or guests remove any attire deemed inappropriate. Shirt and shoes must be worn at all times when in the lobby, fitness, vending, or observation area.
Smoking, Alcohol, Drugs
Smoking, alcohol, and drugs are prohibited in the building.
Food and Beverages
Food, beverages and chewing gum are permitted in the vending area only.
Closing
If the YMCA has to close due to weather it will be on channels 2 and 7.
Areas and Services
Pool Observation Area
-
Parents, family members, and guests are to view participants from the observation areas only.
Supervision of Children
-
For your child’s safety, children are not permitted in the program areas observing, sleeping, or playing. Children under the age of 7 are to be accompanied by an adult.
-
The YMCA offers a Drop-in Child Watch service for parents participating in YMCA classes or programs. The facility is a cheerful place for your child to stay with loving, qualified caregivers while you work out. This service is available free of charge to YMCA Members and $10.00 per visit per child for program participants while using the facility.
Do not use this service for your child if any of the following pertain:

Has had a fever within 24 hours;
-
Has begun antibiotic medication within 24 hours;
-
Has sniffles, reddened eyes, sore throat, cough, headache, abdominal pain, open sores, fever, vomiting or diarrhea, or
-
Is especially fussy, cranky, tired.
-
The child must be on the parent’s membership to qualify for free child care. All children must be accompanied by a parent to be permitted to stay in Child Watch. Anyone other than the parent (babysitters or other family members) will not be permitted to bring that child to the Child Watch Center.

Parents are responsible for bringing diapers, wipes, bottles, and any other needs for your children while they are in the Child Watch Center. Due to allergies, we ask that you provide a snack for your child if they will be hungry before you pick them up.
-
Parents must sign in and sign out the child daily. For safety & security of your child, we ask that the same parent pick up the child that drops him or her off. Brothers & sisters won’t be permitted to pick up children. The staff is not allowed to send the child to another room to “meet you.”
-
Parents can drop off children while working out, but parents must remain on the YMCA premises at all times. If a child appears or becomes ill, the parent will be requested to pick up the child from Child Watch. Please check at the Member Service Desk for information and hours. Please pick up your child as soon after your activity as possible.
Insurance

The YMCA does not provide medical indemnity insurance for injuries sustained while participating in YMCA programs or activities.
Telephone
-
The YMCA phones located at the Member Service Desk and Fitness Center are for YMCA business only. A pay phone is located in the pool observation area for your convenience.
Paging
-
YMCA staff are not allowed to page through the building for a member or a guest for any reason other than an emergency.
Fire Alarm
-
The YMCA is equipped with an automatic fire detection system. If the alarm sounds, follow the instructions of the program leader and evacuate the building immediately from the nearest exit.

Volunteers are the backbone of our YMCA. Without dedicated volunteers, we could not offer the great variety of programs and services that we do. If you would like to be a volunteer or would like to find out more about our volunteer program, please check at the Member Service Desk.

The Springfield Family YMCA pool, gymnasiums, and racquetball courts are available for hourly or overnight parties, or meeting rentals (after hours on weekends). Stop in or call for more information regarding building rentals.
Physical Examination
-
The YMCA recommends that members have a physical examination by their physician before participating in strenuous physical activities or programs.
Registration
-
Advanced registration with full payment is required for all programs. Members shall be given priority during an advanced registration period. At the conclusion of the advanced registration period, non members may register. Some programs may have limited enrollment.
Refunds and Credits
-
If the YMCA cancels a program, a 100% refund will be given to the program participant.
-
If a program participant withdraws from a program, a 50% credit will be given after the first class only. No program credits or refunds will be given after the second class.
-
If a program participant withdraws from a limited enrollment program, no credit or refund will be given after the first class.
Pool Rules

Refresh yourself with a plunge in our 6 lane indoor pool, 3 1/2 feet to 12 feet 8 inches deep. We offer open/family swims, adult/senior swims, and adult lap lanes are available in our multi-use pool:

Persons using the pool should note the following rules and considerations:

A certified lifeguard with current CPR and first aid training will be on duty at all times the pool is open. The lifeguard is responsible to enforce all pool rules and to prohibit any potentially hazardous activity.
-
Children 6 and under must be accompanied in the water by a parent or guardian during all open and family swims.
-
To swim in the deep end of the pool, you must be able to swim 1 length of the pool, and tread water for 1 minute.
-
Persons with open wounds, sores, boils, contagious rashes, infections, or fungus diseases are not permitted in the pool.
-
Please shower before entering the pool area.
-
Running, pushing, shoving, boisterous or rough play is prohibited.
-
Diving is only permitted in the deep end of the pool. Somersaults and back dives from the side of pool are prohibited; diving and playing on the starting blocks is not permitted. Swimmers must jump in feet first facing forward.
-
Each individual should keep their hands to themselves. Standing on the shoulders of another swimmer is not permitted nor is carrying another swimmer on your back.
-
Flotation equipment is only permitted in the pool during lessons or team practices. At all other times, any equipment used must be approved by the lifeguard. No flotation devices of any kind are permitted EXCEPT for Coast Guard Approved lifejackets. A parent MUST be in the water with the child, may not take child to the deep end, and must remain in the adult standing area (of the water) only when children are using lifejackets.

Kickboards, noodles, and barbells are not permitted in the pool for purposes other than instruction. Kickboards, float belts, noodles, and pull buoys may be used by adults only during lap swimming. Beach balls are the ONLY type of ball permitted. Other toys are allowed at the lifeguard’s discretion. Balls and toys may only be in the pool if it does not inhibit the enjoyment of others.

No glass objects will be allowed in the pool area at any time. This refers to all bottles, etc.
-
SCUBA tanks are not permitted unless certified YMCA SCUBA Instructor is present and assumes responsibility.
-
Children not currently toilet trained must wear diapers.
Facility Information
Locker Rooms
-
Locker rooms are designated as Men, Women, Family-Boys, and Family-Girls. The Men’s and Women’s locker rooms include steam rooms and are restricted to adults 19 years and older. Adults assisting children and persons 18 years and younger are to use the Family locker rooms.
Lockers
-
Lockers have been provided for securing members clothing and valuables while using the facility. However, members are responsible for providing their own locks. Locks may not be left on lockers overnight and are subject to removal after the facility closes. The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen articles; any loss should be reported to the Member Service Desk.
Rental Lockers

Half-sized lockers are available for $75 per year,. Please inquire at the Member Service Desk.
Steam Room
-
Adult Steam Rooms are scheduled to cycle on and off to maintain a consistent temperature and humidity. Adult steam rooms are not designed to run constantly. Adults using the steam rooms, located in the Men’s and Women’s locker rooms, should note the following rules and considerations:

The use of the steam room increases pulse rate, increases body temperature and changes blood pressure. The individual effects are unpredictable and could be physically hazardous. Those suffering from heart disease, diabetes, high or low blood pressure, should not enter the steam room without prior consent of a physician.
-
Do not use while under the influence alcohol, anticoagulants, antihistamines, vasoconstrictors, vasodilators, stimulants, hypnotics, narcotics or tranquilizers.
-
Do not use immediately following vigorous exercise.
-
Wait one hour after eating. The stomach needs an abundant supply of blood after eating and the heat of the steam room draws blood to the body surface.
-
Do not use alone.
-
Do not wear rubberized or plastic clothing.
-
Observe a reasonable time limit (10 minutes at the most), then shower, cool down and, if you wish, return for another brief stay.
-
Shaving in the steam room is not permitted.
-
Long exposures may result in nausea, dizziness or fainting.
-
Do not exercise in the steam room.
Adult Fitness Studio

A multitude of physical fitness programs are offered in our Adult Fitness studio. See Program Guide for more information.
Free Weight Room
-
Free weight equipment and over 3000 pounds of weights help increase strength and muscular fitness:
-
Children under 15 years of age are not permitted.
-
Practice caring for one another by returning all weights to the racks after use to help prevent injuries.
Do not drop weights.
All weights must remain in the free weight room.
Report any damaged equipment to a YMCA staff member.
Gym bags should remain in the locker rooms.
Music is provided by the YMCA staff only.
Racquetball/Handball Courts
-
The YMCA’s two courts provide in-town availability:
-
You must be a YMCA member. Children under 15 must be accompanied by a parent when using the courts.
-
Black racquetballs, black handballs, black nonskid soled shoes, and wooden racquets are prohibited.
-
Eye guards or safety glasses are strongly recommended.
-
Court reservations are for one hour and may be made for the current day or for a day in advance. There must be 2 players to reserve a court; the last name of each player must appear on the court reservation sheet.
-
To accommodate more players, no one may play back to back on any court, and no one may reserve a court for more than one period per day.
-
All players must check in upon arrival. If both players have not checked in within 10 minutes of the scheduled time, the court reservation will be forfeited, and the court will become open for anyone waiting to play. Both players must be on the court within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, or the court will be forfeited.
-
If for any reason you cannot keep your court reservation, please notify the YMCA as soon as possible, so others may enjoy the facility.
Gymnasium: 104’ x 70’ (7,280 square feet)

Our full-sized gymnasium, with resilient flooring, hosts a variety of activities such as basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, indoor soccer, and much more:

Basketballs are available inside the gym. Additional equipment can be signed out at front desk.
-
A divider curtain can be lowered to facilitate programming on either side.
Persons using the gym should note the following rules and considerations:
-
Basketballs and other sporting equipment are available for use. Members are responsible for the return or replacement of any lost or damaged equipment.
-
Hanging on the basket rim is prohibited.
-
Throwing items onto the track is prohibited.
-
Profanity, abusive language, and un-sportsman like conduct shall not be tolerated.
Suspended Track: resilient floor, 17 laps = 1 mile Walk, jog, or run around the perimeter of the gym on a suspended, banked track for improved cardiovascular fitness.
-
Children under 15 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
-
Stretch and cool down in the designated area off the track.
-
Run in the direction indicated.
-
Pass to the outside; slower runners or walkers stay to the inside, single file only.
-
Do not stop suddenly in the middle of the track; enter and exit the track carefully.
-
Throwing items from the track is prohibited.
Parking: 96 spaces and fire lane (45,740 square feet)

Ample parking is available in the parking lot of the YMCA and in the adjacent Clark State parking lot. Please enter the parking lot from Monroe Street. Please observe all Fire lanes and park in designated areas only.

Use of 4 Handicapped parking area is by permit only.

Bicycles should be locked in the rack provided. Bicycles must not block the entrance and may not be brought into the building.
The YMCA assumes no responsibility for vandalism, theft, or other loss.
Youth Center
-
The C.F. Davidson Youth Center, which opened in January of 1997 offers a variety of open recreation activities. The Youth Center is available to members ages 7-14. There will be a seasonal schedule available at the Member Service Desk. The center is a great place for youth to hang out while mom or dad are working out or to meet their friends after school or on the weekends

Welcome to the Thomas W. McGregor Fitness Center! This is the first step towards a happier, healthier lifestyle. In order to receive the best possible workout and obtain aerobic and nautilus benefits, a Fitness Center orientation is required.
-
The Orientation lasts approximately one hour. Participants should bring/wear attire appropriate for exercise (athletic shoes and loose fitting clothing.) Please do not bring any belongings into the Fitness Center.
-
Instructors will review the Fitness Center policies, provide information on beginning an exercise program, and instruct you on appropriate exercise recommendations: weight amounts, seat heights, repetitions and form.
The Orientation procedure begins as follows:
A. Call or stop by the Fitness Center to schedule your appointment.
B. Once the orientation has been completed, you will have been instructed on the proper use of the equipment and demonstrated the basic knowledge and skill to use the machines in a safe and appropriate manner.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our fitness center staff. Be sure to ask about our personal training and fitness testing programs.
For increasing muscular strength & endurance, the Fitness Center offers a complete circuit of state-of-the-art equipment.

Qualified instructors are available to instruct or assist you with the equipment.

Please limit your workouts on the aerobic equipment to 20-30 minutes.

Nautilus machines are set up for circuit training; please do not cut in front of others for a favored machine.

Report any damaged equipment immediately to a YMCA staff member.
