Childcare

6 weeks through 8 years of age

Kid Zone is a cheerful place for your child to stay with loving, qualified caregivers while you work out. The YMCA Drop-in Kid Zone service is available FREE of charge to member parents participating in YMCA classes or programs and costs $5 per visit per child for non-members. PLEASE NOTE: the parent must remain on the YMCA premises at all times.

Child must be on the parent's membership to qualify for free childcare. All children must be accompanied by a parent to be permitted to stay in Kid Zone. We use a matching tag system for new members or staff until we get to know you and your child(ren). We follow state regulated guidelines for sanitizing our rooms and toys. We consistently strive to improve.  If you have any suggestion, please feel free to share them with staff or contact the supervisor.

KID ZONE GUIDELINES

Do not use this service for your child if any of the following pertain:

  • Has had a fever within 24 hours;
  • If your child is sick, please keep them at home. This is for the best interest of the other children;
  • Has begun antibiotic medication within 24 hours;
  • Has sniffles, reddened eyes, sore throat, cough, headache, abdominal pain, open sores, fever, vomiting or diarrhea, or
  • Is especially fussy, cranky, tired.
  • The child must be on the parent’s membership to qualify for free child care. All children must be accompanied by a parent to be permitted to stay in Kid Zone. Anyone other than the parent (babysitters or other family members) will not be permitted to bring that child to the Kid Zone Center.
  • Parents are responsible for bringing diapers, wipes, bottles, and any other needs for your children while they are in the Kid Zone Center. Due to allergies, we ask that you provide a snack for your child if they will be hungry before you pick them up.
  • Due to the limited amount of time your child(ren) will spend with us, we DO NOT supply snacks.  You are welcome to  bring snack and drink for your child(ren).  We do ask that you bring a healthy snack that is not choke able. NO gum, candy, nuts etc.
  • Parents must sign in and sign out the child daily. For safety & security of your child, we ask that the same parent pick up the child that drops him or her off. Brothers & sisters won’t be permitted to pick up children. The staff is not allowed to send the child to another room to “meet you.”
  • Parents can drop off children while working out, but parents must remain on the YMCA premises at all times. If a child appears or becomes ill, the parent will be requested to pick up the child from Kid Zone. Please check at the Member Service Desk for information and hours. Please pick up your child as soon after your activity as possible.
  • Our designated areas consist of the infant and older child watch rooms and youth gym.  We will inform you of where your  child(ren) will be.
  • In the event that your child(ren) participates in any inappropriate behavior (hitting, rough play, foul language, etc.) our policy is 1st Warning, 2nd 3-5 minute Time Out and 3rd Page Parent.

         The YMCA Child Care program is located at the Town & Country Early Childhood Center (2430 Van Buren Avenue, Springfield). The program includes the core values of the YMCA (caring, honesty, respect, responsibility) as well as appropriate, age-specific curriculum.  The scientifically based Creative curriculum includes experiences in science, language arts, writing, dramatic play, art, blocks & transportation, and music where children learn through play.

         Additional activities include gymnastics, field trips (Clark County Library, Bookmobile, etc) and swimming. We incorporate the YMCA character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.  We focus on process, not product, to encourage the child's exploration of a choice of media and art forms.  Indoor gross motor play area as well as two outdoor playgrounds.

         The YMCA program is state licensed through the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services.  All lead teachers have a minimum of an Associates Degree or significant experience in Early Childhood Education.  All teachers are certified in First Aid, CPR, Communicable Disease Prevention, and Child Abuse Prevention.
