Dear Members & Community,

As the fall months progress upon us, we have much to be proud of at the Springfield Family YMCA. Margo Geer, a SPY Swim team member, for over 10 years qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 100m backstroke. She is expected to make the Olympic Trials in more events. Her and her family, Mark & Linda Geer, travel to and from Lewis Center every day for swim practice. If you see Margo, please congratulate her on this great accomplishment.

Speaking of swimming, a swim instructor will be available during our Saturday afternoon Adult Lap time from 1:15 to 2:00 pm. The purpose of this is to give additional tips to interested individuals on stroke mechanics, swim workouts, and any additional questions. We are hoping to help some of our more intermediate and advanced swimmers continue to improve.

Our new front desk system is up and running. If you have not stopped to get your new keycard, please feel free to do so. This fall, we will be piloting online registration and bill payment with one of our programs: Swim Team. In order to register online, we must have the members current e-mail address. When using the online system, the member must also pay in full with a credit card. More information will be given to swim team parents as the registration period begins.

The Springfield Clark County JVS installed several of the curbs prior to the end of the 2006-2007 school year. They will be replacing the additional curbs this fall after school starts. Again, please feel free to park in the Clark State lot next door during this construction.

We are also happy to announce the return of Wes Stephens to the YMCA staff as Senior Program Director. Wes worked at the YMCA in the Sports Enhancement area several years ago. Wes’s responsibilities will include membership and overseeing programs.

Sincerely,

Woody Cornette

Chief Executive Officer
